Leading someone else into a journey with Jesus – making disciples – is the last step in our own journey.

IT IS ALWAYS A GOD-INITIATED AND GOD-DIRECTED PROCESS; GOD IS THE ONE WHO LEADS PEOPLE TO FAITH. SO AS WE MAKE DISCIPLES, WE PRAY FOR GOD TO WORK AND FOLLOW HIS LEADING.

Here are some simple tools we can use to lead other through THE STEPS OF DISCIPLESHIP JOURNEY:

How do you lead someone to faith (evangelism)?

OIKOS MAP TOOL

The place to begin with leading others into a journey with Jesus is to prayerfully explore who God might have you lead in this way (remember the whole journey is always a God-initiated and God-directed process!). The Oikos Map is a tool to help you do just that.

Transitioning Conversations

As you have conversations with people God has led you to identify in your Oikos Map, there are different ways for you to share God’s good news with them. But how do you get to that point in a conversation? See five ways to do that:

THE 15-Second Testimony

The 15-Second Testimony is a helpful way to reflect on your own unique journey with Jesus. This first version includes different kinds of testimonies and helpful tips:

Here’s a second version with a diagram for making your own:

THE 3 CIRCLES

While a testimony is the story of your own life, how do you share the gospel itself, the good news of what God has done through Jesus’ death and resurrection? The 3 Circles is one way to do that:

THE SPOTLIGHTS TOOL

As you share your testimony and the gospel, you will receive different responses. The Stoplights tool helps you know how you respond in turn:

SORRY-THANK YOU-PLEASE PRAYER

If you do get a green light, and someone says, “Yes, I do believe what you’ve shared about Jesus,” you can ask them to repeat after you a simple prayer of faith. Step 1 is about coming to a heartfelt faith that is expressed with our words (Romans 10:9-10). You can use something like the following Sorry-Thank You-Please prayer:

Jesus, I am sorry for the things I have done wrong in my life (take a few moments to ask his forgiveness for anything particular that is on your conscience). Thank you that you died on the cross for me so that I could be forgiven and set free. Thank you that you offer me forgiveness and the gift of your Spirit. I now receive that gift. Please forgive me. I now turn from everything that I know is wrong. Please come into my life by your Holy Spirit to be with me forever.

Thank you, Lord Jesus. Amen.
